Like in other countries, which are completely surrounded by the sea, also here in Malta and Gozo all the life very much depends on the Mediterranean Sea.

Because of its small size and the remote location of the Maltese Archipelago, the therefore limited industrial pollution and especially because of the environmental orientated mentality of the Maltese people the Mediterranean Sea here has still maintained its healthy state. For that reason it is hardly possible to find such clear waters and such an abundant fauna somewhere else in the Mediterranean. Therefore it is no wonder that every year many thousands of divers visit these islands for a spectacular diving holiday.

Because of the mild climate even in winter it is possible to dive here all year round, with water temperatures never less than 15°C and up to 26°C in summer. Even in stormy weather it is possible to find some interesting dive sites on the sheltered side of the island. Visibility under water is rarely less than 30 metres all year round and there are hardly any strong currents.

The fauna around the islands offers an uncountable diversity of animals and in the same time is different from place to place.

Huge boulders are nicely grown with algae and are covered with colourful sponges. One can encounter big groupers or huge schools of sea breams between many other small fishes. There is even a good chance to discover a sea horse. On some places it is even possible to see barracudas or big tunas in the blue and sometimes even eagle rays.

A breathtaking attraction for divers is especially the underwater landscape. The most spectacular dives are based on the unique topographic structure of these islands with its steep limestone cliffs. These often vertical cliffs go on under water and offer fantastic wall dives. The natural forces are creating uncountable cracks, holes, caves and caverns in these relatively soft limestone walls offering divers many spectacular dives.

Especially around Gozo there are many caves and caverns in different depth ranges with spectacular light effects in some of them and often the walls of the caverns are nicely grown with colourful sponges and small corals. Most of them can be dived easily and safe and are for sure a highlight in your dive career.

Finally we should not forget to mention wreck diving. There are some wrecks around the Maltese islands but the most spectacular ones are a 120 metre long tanker off Malta and a big ferry off the coast of Gozo.

Most of the top spots can be easily reached from shore so it is usual to drive to the places with jeeps. Comino Island will be offered frequently with boat trips.

The big variety of places offers fascinating dives for beginners as well as for experienced divers. With one of our experienced Instructors as a guide even not so experienced divers can explore most of the caves and caverns.

This makes the Maltese islands a perfect destination for divers and even for people who want to learn diving or want to improve their diving skills.

Beneath an interesting holiday the Maltese islands will offer you unforgettable dives anyway!
